We’re Choosing Aveda Products for the Salon, And Here’s Why

When it comes to great beauty products, we’re loving Aveda products. These are high-quality products we adore for so many reasons beyond the great smells. Why? Aveda’s core mission is to care for the world we live in, from the products they make to the way they give back to the community. Beauty is so much more than a product. And we love Aveda’s constant promise to turn their vision into an example for environmental leadership around the world. close up of young woman at sunset That’s why we’re so happy Aveda hair care products, and part of the skincare line is now available at Mill Pond Salon. Especially since you can often only find these unique products in bigger cities. Come on in and feel good with us. We’re happily enjoying (and smelling) every Aveda bottle on the shelf.

All About Aveda

Horst Rechelbacher, the founder of Aveda, is a true pioneer of holistic beauty. Environmental responsibility has always been a core goal for the company, making Aveda products a tasteful, feel-good force in the beauty industry. We can feel the momentum behind a more significant global movement when we use Aveda’s products. We believe in them. Did you know? Horst was inspired to create Aveda after a visit to India. There, he had gained a deep appreciation for balance in mind, body, and spirit. This was the very beginning to how he wanted to cater to guest’s ultimate beauty goals. Bottle of essential oil with fresh herbal sage, rosemary, lemon thyme and thyme Horst wanted to revolutionize the beauty industry. While he was in India, he created his first Clove Shampoo. He met with Shiv Nath Tandon in India, thus inspiring this shampoo. The rest is enlightening history. “We are the earth,” he said. “We are soil. We are water. We are everything. So go organic if you can. So become a farmer. Grow in your own house. Grow peppermint and make your own tea. Celebrate life.”

One of the biggest reasons we love Aveda is their involvement with charity. Their partnership with charity:water, a leading non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing access to clean drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) to people in developing countries. Since 2006, charity:water has raised $230 million for clean water initiatives, serving 9.5 million people around the world.

Natural Ingredients

We connect profoundly with Aveda’s mission to use green ingredients for their products whenever possible. Aveda’s products do not have sodium lauryl sulfate, phthalates, or parabens. Sodium lauryl sulfate can irritate the skin, and parabens have been found in breast tumors. Phthalates are industrial chemicals. Here’s Aveda’s definition of green ingredients:
  • Certified organic.
  • Sourced from sustainable plant-based origins, ones that do not negatively impact the ecosystems.
  • Naturally derived ingredients.
Natural oils and plants Something interesting to note on ingredients: Aveda established Soil to Bottle™ traceability for specific vital components. Soil to Bottle™allows Aveda to progressively document and expand the source of these ingredients while promoting quality through its supply chain. Cool, right? We agree. Aveda has made a commitment to developing close working partnerships with communities and suppliers to source them as the primary source for individual ingredients. All of Aveda’s process in an environmentally responsible manner through steam distillation. Aveda also developed Babassu Betaine technology to make sure they’re always using sustainable plant-based alternatives. Why? Plant-based products can replace petrochemicals whenever possible, a significant move to grow into a sustainable brand.

The Coveted Pure-Fume™ Aromas

Whenever we use Aveda products, the smell is one of the leading factors that draw us in right away. We can almost close our eyes right now and smell a better sense of our well-being (Writer’s Note: small pause for a deep breath). Their pure-fume™ aroma is the pure heart of every Aveda experience. Aveda enhances their products through the art and science of aromaology and curate artful blends of flower and plant extracts distilled in their very own Botanical Aroma Lab. Woman between leaves Aveda’s goal is to awaken our senses of nature’s power and experience them on our paths. Something we love is that Aveda draws richly from Ayurveda, which relies on the aromatherapeutic properties of plants. The wellness and strength of Aveda’s spirit make such beautiful and perfect sense.

Making the Community a Healthier, Happier Place

Among the many reasons we’ve highlighted why we love Aveda products so much, responsible packaging is a vital one for us. Aveda knows it’s essential to use 100% post-consumer recycled PET, and they were one of the first beauty companies to do it. 85% of their skin care and hair styling PET bottles and jars contain 100% post-consumer recycled materials.

Aveda’s Guiding Principles:
  • Consider the life cycle of products when developing packaging options.
  • Use the most environmentally sound materials.
  • Use packaging that can be recycled whenever possible.
  • Utilize renewable energy to manufacture and fill the packaging plant in Blaine, Minnesota.
  • Reduce size and weight production processes when packaging whenever it is possible and challenge packaging partners to do the same.
Don’t forget, Aveda uses 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material as much as they can. The Bioplastic they use is biopolyethylene derived primarily from sugarcane (a quickly renewable resource). It’s important to note while you’re reading, Bioplastic is 96% plant derived and 4% petrochemical.
